Access Controller & Spot Checker Update #3

Authority to work is the term given to a set of minimum requirements that a Rail Industry Worker must meet in order to use their RIW card. Let’s look a little further into what this means for those who Access Control or Spot Check…

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR A RIW CARD?

In order to use a RIW card, a cardholder must have:

  • A physical or virtual RIW card
  • A primary employer in the RIW System
  • A current cardholder subscription (paid annually)
  • The necessary competencies and medical category level to meet the requirements of the job role being undertaken at the site.
Further to this, the cardholder must not have a national, network or site block applied to their profile.

These minimum requirements are available to view by Access Controllers and Spot Checkers when using the RIW App, Web Card Reader or PC Card Reader.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CARDHOLDER DOES NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WHEN SWIPING THEM IN TO SITE, OR WHEN SPOT CHECKING THEIR RIW PROFILE?

If a cardholder does not meet any of these minimum requirements, then the cardholder should be denied access to site. Please refer the cardholder to their Employer in the first instance to resolve the issue.
